The main objective of the Project is to promote the use of environment-friendly products (green consumption), while training public authorities (purchasing organizations) to apply environmental criteria in public procurement intended for public interests, and inform society and business about the benefits of sustainable public procurement.
This Project will have impact both economically and socially:
- The Project will benefit to the development of environmental efficiency; will form sustainable policy consciousness of society and employees of purchasing authorities; will form the sense that sustainable procurement is beneficial for the environment.
- The competences of purchasing staff will be improved; preparation of staff for new, real labour market conditions will be enhanced; acquired skills will improve efficiency.
- The Project will help to ensure the access to the environmental information, because such kind of information hasn’t been yet prepared in Lithuania.
- The Project will build cooperation network among a wide range of stakeholders, including present and future suppliers, service providers and contractors, so they can take account of the new requirements. This will encourage the exchange of new ideas, information and know-how.
- The Project will encourage the direct social dialogue between business organizations and consumers; it will play significant role forming the benefits of environmental efficiency for the community – the community will be encouraged to choose healthier, more ecological, less harmful products.
- The activities of the Project will promote the industry to develop green technologies, since a sum spent for public procurement by public authorities (which is the target group of the Project) is about 20 % of the national GNP (gross national product).
- The Project will contribute to the saving of taxpayers’ money and environment protection because by purchasing wisely, you can save materials and energy, reduce waste and pollution, and encourage sustainable consumption.
- The successful implementation of the Project will encourage new environmental projects; will contribute to the formation of new cooperation types between the beneficiaries of this Project. As the result of this, new jobs and activity forms will be created, since the activities related with sustainable policy have great potential to create material well-being and jobs.
