The Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ) is a 534 ha industrial development area which provides tax incentives. The FEZ is attractive due to its geographic position as well as its perfect development possibilities. The Kaunas FEZ is located on the cross-roads of the Via Baltica motorway and the major transport corridors connecting Helsinki and Warsaw as well as the East-West highway linking the Klaipėda Sea Port with Russia and the Ukraine. It is a very convenient location and in the future, the Kaunas FEZ will become the region’s main transport terminal with excellent road and railway access to the ice-free Klaipėda port as well as to other Baltic ports. |

Lately Kaunas Airport has been rapidly developing as a result of increasing cheap flight numbers. This new service invigorated the operations of the airport which will attract more cargo flights. The field of Kaunas FEZ activities embraces all the possibilities offered by a multi-modal transport terminal. Kaunas FEZ will host an industrial area; a transport terminal with load distribution and warehousing facilities; offices; and science and technology park. Business consultation, translation, customs clearance, banking, and marketing services will all be rendered in the FEZ. Investments are forthcoming due to several advantages: the outstanding concept of the project, its strategic location, the long-term strategy of the project and the tax incentives. Income tax is not imposed on a company investing over EUR 1m for a period of 6 accounting periods, whereas over the following 10 accounting periods the tax rate is 50%. Following the Law on Income Tax of the Republic of Lithuania, the dividends earned by foreign investors from business in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone are not subject to taxation. No property tax has to be paid.
