ECONOMIC ENTITIES

In year 2006 there were 726 economic entities in Jonava District Municipality, most of which operated in Wholesale and retail trade, and Health and education, social work and other social service activities (Table No 1).

Micro companies dominate in Jonava District (more than 71 percent of enterprises have less than 10 employees), but there are also larger companies with 100 and more employees (Table No 2).

LABOUR FORCE ACTIVITY RATE AND UNEMPLOYMENT

In year 2005 an average annual amount of employed people in Jonava District was 21,1 thousand and most of them (27,8 percent) worked in industry. Other sectors employing the largest amount of people in Jonava District: education, construction and trade sectors.

From 1997 to 2001 an unemployment rate in Jonava District was increasing (Table No 3), but recently it is decreasing, reflecting tendencies of the whole Lithuania. This tendency should remain in the future too, since increasing demand of qualified labour force and emigration raises employment rate.

In order to keep and to improve employee’s qualification, preventive and re-skilling trainings are being organized in Jonava District consistently. Those who do not have profession can take part in active labour market policy programs, such as vocational training, retraining, etc. The above mentioned programmes determine reduction of unskilled labour force in Jonava District.

 

INVESTMENTS IN TANGIBLE FIXED ASSETS  

In year 2007 investments in tangible fixed assets made up 250,4 million litas (1,5 percent of Lithuania’s investments in tangible fixed assets) (Table No 4). According to investments in tangible fixed assets Jonava District was second after Kaunas city in Kaunas Region.

Growth of investments in tangible fixed assets indicates increase of investments not only in construction and infrastructure, but also in modernization of manufacturing and business development. Investments in business development allow assumptions that in near future investments in tangible fixed assets will continue to grow.

FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENTS

In beginning of 2007, FDI in Jonava District reached 22,5 million LTL (Table No 5) and in comparison with over municipalities of Kaunas Region it was fifth result (only municipalities of Kaunas City, Kaunas, Kedainiai and Raseiniai Districts attracted more FDI).

Hereafter, FDI in Jonava District should be increasing. Moreover, investments in high-tech industries creating great added value should be increasing too.
