The Kaisiadorys District has an excellent geographical location, as it is situated not only between the longest Lithuanian rivers, the Nemunas and the Neris, but also between the largest Lithuanian cities, capital Vilnius and Kaunas. These cities are connected by the Lithuania's main motorways and railway lines intersecting Kaisiadorys District. The District borders with Sirvintos, Prienai, Kaunas, Jonava and Elektrenai districts. 

The territory of Kaisiadorys District covers 108 700 hectares and the total population is 35 905 (the population of Kaisiadorys Town alone numbers 13 488 inhabitants) (2008-01-01, data of Department of Statistics to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania). 

The main industries in Kaisiadorys District are meat processing, aviculture, wood processing, forestry and generating of energy. The largest companies in the District are a meat processing company "Nematekas", one of the biggest poultry factories in Lithuania - JSC "Kaisiadorys Poultry Factory" and Kruonis Hydroelectric Power Plant (the only in the Baltic States). 

Futhermore, Kaisiadorys District is home to one of the most interesting tourist attractions in Lithuania - The Open Air Museum of Lithuania located in Rumsiskes. The Museum acquaints visitors with the mode of life of all Lithuanian ethnographic regions as well as housing construction and equipment techniques of Lithuanian people during various periods. The Museum hosts exhibitions of folk artists, trainings of folk-crafts, and celebrations of ethnographic festivals that attract thousands of visitors from Lithuania and abroad.
