Kaunas District comprises an area of 149,500 hectares around Kaunas city and the population of Kaunas District is around 86685.

The main industries are construction materials, food processing and textiles. Furthermore, Kaunas Free Economic Zone with the total area of 1000 ha is located in Kaunas district just 7 km from Kaunas city. The Belgian company A.O.I. nv (Antwerpse Ontwikkelings – en Investeringsmaatschappij) has been contracted by the Lithuanian Government to develop the Kaunas FEZ, which has great future perspectives of industrial or logistics development. Another major partner of the Kaunas FEZ is an Irish company Shannon Development. And the most recent project in Kaunas district is “Baltic Logistic City” which will be the biggest logistics centre in the Baltic States with a total area of 12 ha.
